Why do I practice and promote self-care?
Besides the fact that I like feeling strong and healthy, I want to be present for the celebrations, joys, and achievements of my young loved-ones. If they face hard times, my particular brand of encouragement and support might make a difference in the outcome.
I’d rather not die of a preventable disease, if at all possible. My DNA is loaded for heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer. Why pull the trigger or gamble with the lives of the people who depend on me?
The heartbreak of your absence on a wedding day or an empty seat at a college graduation is so deep. Life has tragedies and accidents, but I’d rather not be gone, prematurely, because of stubborn inaction, regarding the practice of self-care.
No one can replace you, in the lives of your loved ones. Don’t leave them at a most vulnerable time. Realize that self-care means giving them the greatest gift: the healthiest version of yourself.
